Princeton, N.J.--Director General of the Foreign Service Anthony Quainton, a member of Princeton's Class of 1955, will speak on "Diplomacy in a New World Order" at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 4:30 p.m. in Robertson Hall, Bowl 1.

Ambassador Quainton, who is also director of personnel for the Foreign Service, assumed his current post in 1995. He joined the Foreign Service in 1959 and during his long and distinguished career has served in a variety of positions, including assistant secretary of state for diplomatic security (1992-95); deputy inspector general (1987-89); U.S. ambassador to Kuwait (1984-87); U.S. ambassador to Nicaragua (1982-84); director of the department's Office for Combating Terrorism (1978-81); and U. S. ambassador to the Central African Empire (1976-78).

He is the recipient of Presidential Meritorious Service Awards (1984 and 1989), and of the William R. Rivkin Award (1972) and the Christian A. Herter Award (1984), both presented by the American Foreign Service Association in recognition of "outstanding intellectual originality, courage, forthrightness, and constructive dissent."

His lecture is sponsored by the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
