Canadian Consul General on ``What's Up in Canada?''

Princeton, N.J.--George Haynal, the Canadian consul general, will speak on ``The North American Neighborhood: What's Up in Canada?'' at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs on Wednesday, February 14, at 4:30 p.m. in Robertson Hall, Bowl 1.

Before his appointment as consul general in New York in 1995, Haynal was the head of the Canadian government's foreign and trade policy staff and coordinated the management of international trade and foreign policy. He led the governments year-long Foreign Policy Review, which resulted in a comprehensive refocusing of Canada's diplomatic, aid, cultural, and security resources.

Previously, Haynal had served as vice president of corporate banking for the Royal Bank of Canada, as director general of economic policy in the Canadian government's Department of External Affairs and International Trade, and as deputy head of the Secretariat to the Canadian Federal Cabinet's Priorities and Plannings Committee. He is a member of the Canadian Institute of International Affairs, the International Institute of Strategic Studies, and the Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers, of which he is a past president.

His talk is being sponsored by the Woodrow Wilson School and the Fund for Canadian Studies.
