Renowned Polish Journalist and
Activist to Speak on Poland's
Presidential Elections

Princeton, N.J.--Polish journalist Konstanty Gebert will speak on
``Red Vs. White and Red Again? Poland Readies for the Forthcoming
Presidential Elections'' at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson
School of Public and International Affairs on Monday, March 27, at
4:30 p.m. in Robertson Hall, Room 8.

Gebert is the international commentator for Poland's leading daily
newspaper, _Gazeta Wyborcza_ and one of that country's leading
social and political analysts. One of the few members of Poland's
Jewish community, he gained prominence as a dissident journalist
during the period of martial law, when he wrote from the
underground as ``Dawid Warsawsky'' and helped organize underground
classes for high school and university students. Gebert was a
principal in the negotiations between the Solidarity movement and
the Polish government that led to the former's re-legalization and
to Poland's democratic revolution. He has held visiting
professorships at several American universities, most recently at
the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Gebert's talk is being sponsored by the Woodrow Wilson School and
the University's Committee on European Studies.
