New Associate Director Joins Princeton University Art Museum

PRINCETON -- Rebecca E. Sender, former chief development officer at the American Federation of Arts, a national art museum service organization in New York City, has joined The Art Museum, Princeton University, as associate director. She is responsible for the daily operations of the Museum.

"It is a great pleasure to welcome Becky Sender as the associate director of The Art Museum at Princeton. She brings extensive experience in arts and business administration to the Museum that will be crucial as we plan for the future of this remarkable institution. Her knowledge and expertise will help to shape and realize the many goals we have set for the Museum," said Susan M. Taylor, director of The Art Museum, about the appointment.

A 1985 graduate of Wesleyan University in Connecticut, Sender received an M.A. degree in American art history from Columbia University and an M.B.A. from the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh.

At the American Federation of Arts, Sender was responsible for all aspects of individual fund-raising and special events programming, and helped to develop the institution's long-range strategic plan. Sender also worked at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts as director of administration and development, WNET-TV/Thirteen Public Television in New York City, and the Brooklyn Museum of Art. She is the co-author of "Karoshi: Alternative Perspectives of Japanese Management Styles," published in Business Horizons by the University of Indiana Press.

"I am thrilled to have joined The Art Museum as associate director," said Sender. "The Museum is a tremendous resource, not only for Princeton University, but for New Jersey and the surrounding areas. This is a particularly exciting time, as the Museum is embarking upon a number of programmatic initiatives under the new leadership of Susan Taylor. I look forward to working closely with her and the Museum's talented staff and volunteers, as well as other departments throughout the University, to see that our operations function as smoothly and effectively as possible."

Sender succeeds Charles K. Steiner, who is now director of the Wichita Art Museum in Kansas.

The Art Museum houses an encyclopedic collection of over 60,000 objects and welcomes about 100,000 visitors annually. It supports the teaching and research needs of the University, and also serves as an important regional cultural resource. The Museum is open to the public without charge Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. It is closed on Monday and major holidays. The Museum Shop closes at 5 p.m. Free highlights tours of the collection are given every Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Museum is located in the middle of the Princeton University campus. Picasso's large sculpture Head of a Woman stands in front. For further information, please call (609) 258-3788.
