Ann Elizabeth Mayer is a specialist in Middle Eastern studies, Islamic law, and human rights law. She holds a Ph.D. in Middle Eastern History from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. She has extensive research experience in various countries of the Islamic world, including Egypt, Morocco, Pakistan and Tunisia.

Mayer served as a consultant on human rights issues in the Middle East for the Lawyers Committee on Human Rights and the U.S. Department of State, and is a member of the board of several journals and academic associations devoted to human rights and Middle Eastern studies. Her research and writing focus on specific women’s issues, as well as human rights in general.

This lecture is sponsored by Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and the Center for the Study of Religion. It is free and open to the public.
