Reporters invited to attend investment workshop

Princeton, N.J. -- The University has organized a workshop to introduce members of the private investment community to the latest advances in the burgeoning field of photonics, nano-technology, and biotechnology. The workshop, scheduled for Friday, Jan. 5, is expected to draw more than 250 investment professionals from many of most prominent investment and venture capital companies.

The workshop is a first for the University and is part of an increasing effort to create industry-university partnerships to develop scientific findings that have potential commercial applications.

"Five years ago you would have been hard-pressed to find high faculty interest in an event like this, and now the response has been most rewarding," said Joseph X. Montemarano, the director for industrial liaison at POEM, Princeton's Center for Photonics and Optoelectronic Materials.

For more details and a partial list of participating scientists, please visit the POEM website at http://www.poem.princeton.edu/ and click on "Upcoming Events."

The workshop is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Computer Science building at 35 Olden St. Participating scientists are expected to begin their presentations at 2:30. Reporters are welcome to attend, but are asked to register in advance by contacting Montemarano at jmonte@ee.princeton.edu or 609-258-2267.

The workshop is organized by POEM in collaboration with the Princeton Materials Institute (PMI), and the offices of Technology Licensing at Princeton University and Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory. Other cooperating partners include AT&T Ventures, Biotechnology Council of New Jersey, Business News New Jersey, New Jersey Commission on Science and Technology. New Jersey Technology Council, The Princeton Internetwork, New Jersey Entrepreneurial Network, Lucent Ventures, Sarnoff Ventures, and ProsperityNJ.
